Turnaround
Position: Chief Executive Officer
Timeframe: 1990 - 1994
Key Objectives:
- Achieve a return to profitability
- Strategic positioning of the company to ensure future growth and stability
- Implementation of new business systems and processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness and control
Outcomes:
- The company achieved a return to profitability in 2 years
- Attrition of clients were turned around within 1 year and sustained growth in client numbers were achieved in subsequent years
- New revenue streams were set up and various strategic initiatives were successfully implemented, including a joint venture, new business ventures and formal investment appraisal procedures
- The implementation of new systems and controls enabled the company to fulfil its fiduciary responsibilities relating to client funds and the recording thereof
- Innovative new client service initiatives were adopted. This involved the presentation of training courses, consulting advice regarding legal and financial issues, regular newsletters and changes
to office locations and hours of service. These initiatives provided the company with a competitive advntage over its rivals and stabilised the client base through increased client satisfaction.
Strategic Re-structuring
Position: Consultant, Interim Manager and Project Manager
Task: Strategic transformation of SA National Co-ordinating Counsumer Council (SANCCC) to become the Directorate of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Trade & Industry, South
Africa
Timeframe: 1996 - 2001
Key objectives:
- Interim Management of the SANCCC to facilitate a smooth transition to the new structure
- Capacity building within new structure to expand the structure from 3 regional offices to 9 provincial Directorates
- Management and safeguarding of SANCCC assets and records during transition
Outcomes:
- Successful transition of administrative functions to new structure within 4 years
- Allocation and disposal of assets per government guidelines achieved in 2 years
- New structures instated and functional within 4 years, final handover and project completion in 5 years. This included redundancy activities relating to SANCCC staff and reporting to the interim
